Fifth Third names Huntington veteran to fill treasurer opening

By

Following several recent management departures and a high-profile hire, Fifth Third Bancorp said June 15 that it selected Mahesh Sankaran as its new treasurer.

Sankaran will join the Cincinnati-based bank later in June.

Executive turnover at Fifth Third, including the resignation of Treasurer Ronald Marks in March, led to speculation about the company's continued independence. Some of that subsided though after the bank in mid-April said it hired Christopher Marshall from Bank of America Corp. as its new CFO.

Sankaran "has a broad range of experience in both treasury and finance functions as well as a wealth of solid technical skills" and he will round out a "superior finance team," President and CEO George Schaefer Jr. said in a news release.

Sankaran previously served as treasurer for Huntington Bancshares Inc. and Compass Bancshares Inc. unit Compass Bank, Fifth Third said.
