Company Release - 4/7/2005 5:09 PM ET

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 7, 2005--Reflecting its commitment to the institutional investment business, Janus Capital Group Inc. (NYSE: JNS) has appointed former Morgan Stanley Investment Management executive Carolyn Patton as Director of Janus' Global Consultant Relations. As of December 31, 2004, Janus and its subsidiaries managed approximately $25 billion in institutional assets for corporations, endowments, foundations, Taft-Hartley union plans and public funds around the world.

Patton, who is based at the firm's Denver headquarters, reports to the head of Janus Institutional Asset Management, Executive Vice President and Managing Director John W. Zimmerman. In this new role, Patton is responsible for building Janus Institutional's relationships with consultants worldwide. Her initial area of focus is ensuring that consultants have the information they need to effectively serve their clients. To that end, Patton plans to expand the level of resources Janus is dedicating to working with institutional consultants.

"Carolyn brings a wealth of expertise and a track record of success in the consultant relations field around the world," said Zimmerman. "Adding her to our team in this new and critical position is another important step as we continue to expand Janus' institutional business globally."

Patton has 13 years' experience in the institutional investment business. Most recently, she was a managing director at Morgan Stanley Investment Management Limited in London, where she led the company's European consultant relations team. Before moving to London in 2003, she was an executive director with Morgan Stanley Investment Management's U.S. and Canadian consultant relations team. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley Investment Management in 1998, she served in a consultant relations role at Delaware Investments and worked with institutional clients at SEI Investments.

Patton holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Virginia and has earned the right to use the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
