Janus Capital Group Launches Two New Mutual Funds; Janus Triton Fund and Janus Research Fund Open Today

Company Release - 2/25/2005 8:00 AM ET

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 25, 2005--Janus Capital Group Inc. (NYSE:JNS) today introduced two new diversified mutual funds -- Janus Triton Fund and Janus Research Fund.

The new funds -- the first Janus has launched in two years -- will leverage the firm's growing team of research analysts and the nearly 1,000 stocks they cover, according to Gary Black, Janus president and chief investment officer.

"Rigorous research is Janus' hallmark," Black said. "We go to great lengths to uncover promising companies others may have missed -- and I'm confident these two funds will capitalize on our expertise."

Janus Triton Fund

Janus Triton Fund is a diversified portfolio investing in dynamic companies with small and medium market capitalizations. Unlike some small-cap funds, Janus Triton Fund has the ability to hold those stocks as the companies grow over time. The new fund will be managed by Ron Sachs, who will continue to manage Janus Orion Fund.

"I'm looking for strong businesses that are early in their growth cycles," Sachs explained. "My goal is to use our intensive, in-depth research to uncover attractive but overlooked business franchises with great growth potential."

Sachs, who joined Janus in 1996 as an equity research analyst, was named assistant portfolio manager of Janus Enterprise Fund in January 1999. In June 2000, he was named portfolio manager of Janus Orion Fund. For the one-year period ended January 31, 2005, Janus Orion Fund ranked in the top 6% of its Lipper peer group, finishing 25th out of 428 multi-cap growth funds based on total returns. For the three-year period ended January 31, 2005, Janus Orion finished in the top 14%, ranking 48th best out of 353 funds based on total returns.

Janus Research Fund

Janus Research Fund is a core product that invests in our research analysts' most compelling ideas -- regardless of their size, industry or location. The company's analyst team will select the individual names for the Research Fund, and stock recommendations will reflect the conviction of the research analyst who follows that company and its industry every day. The individual positions within the same sector will initially be equally weighted and sector exposure will be kept within a fixed range. Jim Goff, the firm's director of research, will oversee the investment process for Janus Research Fund and be responsible for day-to-day portfolio management.

"Research is 80% of the investment process and it's where we can add tremendous value," Black said. "This fund gives investors direct access to our analysts' best ideas and diversification across a broad range of industries."
