Company Release - 10/17/2011 4:15 PM ET

DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Janus Capital Group Inc. (NYSE: JNS) today announced that Janus Triton Fund (JATTX) has been named as an award winner in S&P Capital IQ’s U.S. Mutual Fund Excellence Awards Program for the second year in a row. Janus Triton Fund, which is co-managed by portfolio managers Chad Meade and Brian Schaub, received the Bronze Award in S&P Capital IQ’s Domestic Equity Small Cap category. Recipients were recognized as having most consistently achieved the highest overall quantitative ranking of five-star in their category over a 12-month period, ending August 31, 2011, based upon S&P Capital IQ’s proprietary, holdings-based research.

"Janus Triton Fund won the Bronze award in the Domestic Small Cap category because the fund earned a five-star ranking in part for its strong risk-adjusted track record, long management tenure and for owning a number of stocks that we believe are high quality," said Todd Rosenbluth, a mutual fund analyst at S&P Capital IQ.

S&P Capital IQ’s proprietary mutual fund research methodology incorporates bottom-up research about a fund’s underlying stock, bond and mutual fund holdings as well as its performance, risk, and cost factors to rank approximately 19,000 mutual funds relative to their peers on a scale of one star (lowest) to five star (highest).

“We are pleased that S&P has honored Janus Triton Fund for a second consecutive year,” said Jonathan Coleman, Equity Co-CIO of Janus. “Chad and Brian, supported by our research team, have achieved sustained investment excellence with a consistent philosophy and process that has delivered strong risk-adjusted returns.”
