| Senior Management | Randy ChurcheyPresident & CEO Randy took the helm as President and Chief Executive Officer of Education Realty Trust (EDR) in January, 2010. He also serves as a member of the Company’s Board of Directors.
He is the founder and Co-Chairman of the Board of MCR Development, LLC, a private hotel construction, ownership and management company, and, a member of the Board of Directors of Great Wolf Resorts, Inc., a publicly-traded family entertainment company (NASDAQ: WOLF). Randy was also the Interim Chief Executive Officer of Great Wolf from May 2008 until December 2008. He was President and Chief Executive Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of Golden Gate National Senior Care (the successor to Beverly Enterprises) from March 2006 to September 2007.
From January 2005 until May 2007, Randy was a member of EDR's Board of Directors. He served as President and Chief Operating Officer of RFS Hotel Investors, Inc., a NYSE-listed hotel real estate investment trust (NYSE: RFS), from 1999 to 2003. Randy served as a director of RFS from 2000 through 2003.
From 2004 until its sale in 2008, Randy served on the Board of Trustees of Innkeepers USA Trust, a publicly-traded real estate investment trust (NYSE: KPA). From 1997 to 1999, he was Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of FelCor Lodging Trust, Inc., a NYSE-listed hotel real estate investment trust (NYSE: FCH).
For nearly 15 years prior to joining FelCor, Randy held various positions in the audit practice of Coopers & Lybrand, LLP, including head of the real estate and hospitality practice for the southwest United States. |
| Randall H. BrownExecutive VP, CFO, Treasurer & Secretary Randy joined the predecessor to Education Realty Trust (EDR) – Allen & O’Hara -- in June 1999 as Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer. Prior to joining the Company, he served as Director of Corporate Finance for Promus Hotel Corporation, one of the largest hotel franchisors and operators in the world. As such, he was responsible for securing real estate financing and all other finance related issues for joint ventures. Additionally, he developed construction lending programs for hotel franchisees, assisted in the arrangement of a $1 billion corporate credit facility, and served as relationship manager with lending institutions, investment banks, and joint venture partners.
Prior to his promotion to Director of Corporate Finance, Randy served as Manager of Capital Analysis and Planning for Promus. In this capacity, he prepared financial analyses for various projects under consideration and development; plus, he directed the company's internal controls training for Embassy Suites hotels and developed and coordinated the annual budget process for this hotel brand.
Randy's background also includes considerable capital and financial analysis of operations for International Paper Company. As supervisor of the operations analysis group, he handled the coordination of the annual budgeting process for the company and participated in the due diligence review for corporate acquisitions.
Randy is a Certified Public Accountant – State of Tennessee (inactive), and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He received his B.A., Accountancy, from the University of Memphis and a B.S., Sociology from the University of Tennessee. |
| Thomas TrubianaExecutive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer Considered one the nation’s leading student housing experts, Tom has worked in the student housing industry for more than 30 years. He has been involved in the development and/or management of over 90 student housing properties representing more than 60,000 beds.
Tom began his career in student housing as a resident assistant for Allen & O’Hara. He also served as president and chief executive officer of American Campus Communities (ACC) from July 1997 until October 2003 where he led ACC through their significant period of pre-IPO growth. Prior to serving as president of ACC, Tom held numerous senior management positions for Cardinal/Lexford Realty Services, Inc.
Tom is a member of the National Apartment Association and its Student Housing Committee, the Institute of Real Estate Management, and a number of other higher education and student housing organizations.
Tom is a graduate of West Virginia University and received a B.S., Marketing, and an M.B.A. with an emphasis in Finance. |
| Christine J. RichardsSenior Vice President of Property Operations As the Senior Vice President of Property Operations, Chris oversees the operations of our owned and joint venture collegiate housing portfolio along with directing the management services division.
Prior to being promoted to senior vice president in early 2010, she served as our vice president of operations from 2006-2010 and as a regional director from 2001-2006. Before joining EDR, Chris held various management positions at Gables Residential Trust, a multi-family REIT, from 1989 - 2001.
Along with her responsibilities’ at Education Realty Trust, Chris is a member of the National Apartment Association’s Student Housing Task Force, the Institute of Real Estate Management and a Certified Property Manager (CPM).

| Wallace L. WilcoxSenior Vice President of Construction and Engineering Since joining Education Realty Trust in 1980, Wally has served in various capacities in the project management, maintenance and engineering areas. During his 30 year career, he has supervised the construction of hotels, student housing facilities, student apartments, office buildings, and churches. As Senior Vice President of Construction and Engineering, he serves as the liaison officer between the development team, architects, contractors, and other third-party / investor groups.
Because of his expertise, Wally works with the development team in the feasibility and design of a project and streamlines the cost estimating process between developer, architect and contractor. He serves as the cost control center for the project and emphasizes quality control and construction scheduling conformance to ensure and protect the owner's investment. Additionally, he facilitates the final phase of the project including the installation of the furnishings, fixtures, equipment and finishing products.
In addition to his project management duties, Wally supervises the company-wide Preventative Maintenance Program throughout the portfolio and coordinates all capital improvement projects for the Company.
Wally received his Associates Degree in Industrial Engineering and Management from State Technical Institute at Memphis. |

Drew KoesterVice President, Assistant Secretary andChief Accounting Officer Drew joined Education Realty Trust (EDR) in September 2004 to help lead the Company through its initial public offer and transition into a publicly traded company. Before joining EDR, Drew served as Vice President of Finance for TruGreen Companies, LLC, a division of The Service Master Company. Prior to his promotion to Vice President in 1999, a position he held until joining EDR, Drew was a Financial Analyst at The Service Master Company.
He began his career at Deloitte & Touche, LLP, and was a Financial Reporting Manager for Continental PET Technologies prior to joining The Service Master Company.
Drew received his B.S., Accounting / Finance, from Christian Brothers University. He is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive). |
| Susan B. ArrisonVice President of Human Resources Susan joined Education Realty Trust in January, 1996, as Vice President of Human Resources. She was previously vice president of Employment/Employee Relations at National Bank of Commerce for more than nine years. In this capacity, she coordinated the management recruitment program and the campus recruitment program for the bank. She also served in other capacities relating to personnel management and employee relations, including EEO, Affirmative Action, and Wage and Salary Administration.
Her professional activities include membership in the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM), SHRM Memphis, and the American College Personnel Association (ACPA). Susan has also coordinated corporate sponsorship programs for Habitat for Humanity, the United Way of Memphis, and the Tennessee Mentorship for the Young Child, and has served as a past Board Member on the Board of Directors of the Alzheimer's Day Services.

| Board of Directors | Howard A. Silver From May 1994 to 2007, Mr. Silver was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Equity Inns, Inc., a former NYSE listed company. Until the sale of the company to Whitehall Global Real Estate Funds in October 2007, Equity Inns was the largest hotel real estate investment trust (REIT) focused on the upscale extended stay, all-suite and midscale limited-service segments of the hotel industry. Mr. Silver also served as Equity Inns' Executive Vice-President of Finance, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Operating Officer from 1994 to 2004. Prior to joining Equity Inns, Mr. Silver was employed by Ernst & Young LLP from 1987 to 1992 and by PricewaterhouseCoopers (formerly Coopers & Lybrand L.L.P.) from 1978 to 1986. Mr. Silver holds a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Memphis, and has been a certified public accountant since 1980. |
| Paul O. BowerChairman Paul O. Bower, has served as Chairman of our Board of Directors since July 2004. He was the Company’s Chief Executive Officer and President until his retirement in 2009. Mr. Bower joined our predecessor, Allen & O’Hara, Inc., or Allen & O’Hara, in July 1969, and from 1969 to 1977, he served as Assistant General Manager of Granville Towers (University of North Carolina), General Manager of The Towers (University of Wisconsin) and Summit Hall (West Virginia University), and Regional Director and Branch Manager of Allen & O’Hara’s student housing/foodservice group. In 1977, Mr. Bower was promoted to Vice President of the student housing group of Allen & O’Hara’s management services department, and he became Senior Vice President of that department in 1979. In 1994, Mr. Bower was named Senior Vice President of Management Contract Development, and in 1997, he was named Executive Vice President of Development. In January 1998, he became Chief Executive Officer and President of Allen & O’Hara. Mr. Bower holds the Certified Property Manager designation conferred by the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) and is a member of the Memphis Board of Realtors and the Association of College and University Housing Officers – International. Mr. Bower also serves on the Board of Directors of Youth Villages, a local private nonprofit organization dedicated to helping emotionally and behaviorally troubled children and their families. |
| Monte J. BarrowLead Independent Director Monte J. Barrow has served as a member of our Board of Directors since January 2005. From February 1982 until August 2002, Mr. Barrow served as the Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of MS Carriers, Inc., a publicly-traded trucking transportation company (NASDAQ: MSCA). While serving as Chief Financial Officer of MS Carriers, Mr. Barrow was responsible for the accounting, financial, human resources and information technology departments of EDR. Mr. Barrow retired in August 2002, following the sale of MS Carriers to Swift Transportation Company, Inc. Since February 2003, Mr. Barrow has been self-employed as the owner and operator of two privately-held businesses. |

| William J. Cahill III William J. Cahill, III has served as a member of our Board of Directors since January 2005. Mr. Cahill has served as the Corporate Vice President of Human Resources of FedEx Corporation (NYSE: FDX) since June 2004 and served as Vice President of Human Resources of FedEx Corporation from February 1998 until June 2004. He has been with FedEx since December 1979. In his current role, Mr. Cahill is responsible for executive compensation, succession planning, healthcare strategy, retirement investment, employment, legal compliance and other human resources functions at FedEx Corporation. |
| John L. Ford John L. Ford has served as a member of our Board of Directors since January 2005. Dr. Ford is the Senior Vice President and Dean of Campus Life at Emory University where he oversees student housing and seventeen other departments. Dr. Ford was a professor of policy analysis and management and the dean of students at Cornell University from 1992 to 2000. He has held administrative, academic or research positions at: the University of Exeter in England, the University of British Columbia in Canada, the Japanese Nursing Association in Japan, the Dokkyo University Medical School in Japan, Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Chicago. Dr. Ford is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of the South and a member of the Board of Directors of the Alliance to Improve Emory Village. |
| Wendell W. Weakley Wendell W. Weakley is the President and CEO of the University of Mississippi Foundation. Prior to joining the Foundation on July 1, 2006, he was with PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (“PwC”) from August 1976 to June 2006. Mr. Weakley was an audit partner with PwC serving public clients in the manufacturing, distribution and retail sectors in the Memphis, Dallas and Tampa offices over his career. As an audit manager, he also served a two-year international tour of duty with PwC. He has served as the Office Managing Partner for the Memphis office of Price Waterhouse as well as the audit and industry leader in the Dallas/Ft. Worth market for PwC. He was also a Regional Risk Management partner for PwC. Mr. Weakley is a Certified Public Accountant. |
