| Board of Directors | H. Eric Bolton Jr.ChairmanMr. Bolton was named Chairman of MAA on October 1, 2002, having assumed the duties of Chief Executive Officer one year earlier. With over 25 years of experience in the real estate industry, he has a wide range of both operational and financial management experience. Mr. Bolton has been a member of MAA’s management team since April of 1994, having joined shortly after MAA’s initial public offering. As Director of New Development, he contributed to the company’s aggressive growth period from early 1994 to the present, and in 1997 became President, Chief Operating Officer and a Director of the company. Mr. Bolton has extensive multi-family real estate experience in the areas of new development, redevelopment, acquisitions/dispositions, asset management and property management. He was named the National Multifamily Executive of the Year for 2002 by Multifamily Magazine.
Mr. Bolton’s career has spanned a variety of roles within the real estate and financial services industry. Prior to joining MAA, he spent seven years with the Trammell Crow Company in Dallas, serving most recently as Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer for Trammell Crow Asset Management. Mr. Bolton worked in the commercial banking industry for seven years prior to joining the Trammell Crow Company.
Mr. Bolton holds an undergraduate degree in Accounting and an MBA with a concentration in Finance and Real Estate. He also holds professional designations as a Certified Public Accountant (inactive status) and an Associate of Risk Management.
Mr. Bolton serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the National Multi Housing Council. He is active within the Memphis community serving on the Board of Directors of Youth Villages, Inc., Memphis Tomorrow and the Herff Trust for the University of Memphis.

| Alan B. Graf Jr. Lead Director Mr. Graf has served as a director since June 2002. Mr. Graf is the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of FedEx Corporation, a position he has held since 1998 and is a member of FedEx Corporation’s Executive Committee. Prior to that time, he was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for FedEx Express, FedEx’s predecessor, from 1991 to 1998. Mr. Graf joined FedEx in 1980. He serves as a director for NIKE Inc. and Methodist Hospitals.

| D. Ralph Horn Lead Director | Ralph Horn has served as a director since April 1998. Mr. Horn was elected President, Chief Operating Officer, and a director of First Tennessee National Corporation ('FTNC'), now First Horizon National Corporation, in July 1991 and Chief Executive Officer in April 1994. Mr. Horn was elected Chairman of the Board of FTNC in January 1996. Mr. Horn served as Chief Executive Officer and President of FTNC until July 2002, and as Chairman of the Board through December 2003. Mr. Horn is also a director of Harrah's Entertainment, Inc., Gaylord Entertainment Corporation and The Church Health Center. |

| Mr. Norwood has served as a director since August 2007. Mr. Norwood has served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Faison Enterprises, Inc., a real estate development and investment company headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, since 1994. Prior to joining Faison Enterprises, Inc., Mr. Norwood held a number of positions with Trammell Crow Company including Vice Chairman of Trammell Crow Company, Chairman and CEO of Trammell Crow Realty Advisors, President and CEO of Trammell Crow Real Estate Investors, and Chairman of Trammell Crow Ventures. Mr. Norwood is a member of the Urban Land Institute, International Council of Shopping Centers and the Real Estate Roundtable. Mr. Norwood holds a Bachelor of Arts with honors from Washington & Lee University, a Masters from Duke University and a Juris Doctor cum laude from the University of Georgia School of Law. |
| W. Reid Sanders
| Mr. Sanders has served as a director since March 2010. Mr. Sanders was the Co-Founder and former Executive Vice President of Southeastern Asset Management, and the former President of Longleaf Partners Mutual Funds, a family of funds in Memphis from 1975-2000. He served as the Investment Officer at First Tennessee Investment Management, the investment management division of First Horizon National Corporation, from 1973-1975. Prior to being at First Tennessee, Mr. Sanders worked in Credit Analysis and Commercial Lending at Union Planters National Bank from 1971-1972. Mr. Sanders currently serves on the Board of Directors for Two Harbors Investment Corporation, a real estate investment trust which focuses on investing in residential mortgage-backed securities, is a Director of Independent Bank, serves on the Investment Committee at Cypress Realty, a limited partnership involved in commercial real estate, and is on the Advisory Board of SSM Venture Partners. |
| William B. Sansom
William B. Sansom is a director since November 2006, Mr. Sansom is the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Chief Executive Officer and President of the H.T. Hackney Co. From 1979 to 1981, Mr. Sansom served as the Tennessee Commissioner of Transportation, and from 1981 to 1983 as the Tennessee Commissioner of Finance and Administration. In 2006, Mr. Sansom was named the Chairman of the Board of the Tennessee Valley Authority.
Mr. Sansom also serves as a director for Astec Industries, Inc. and First Horizon National Corporation.

| Mr. Shorb has served as a director since May 2012. Mr. Shorb is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, an integrated healthcare system that comprises a seven-hospital operation centered in the Mid-South with over 11,000 employees. Rated as the number one hospital in the region (2011-2012) by U.S. News and World Report, Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare received accolades in twelve specialties. Mr. Shorb joined Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare in 1990 as Executive Vice President. Before joining Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare, Mr. Shorb served as President of the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee. Prior to his work in the healthcare industry, Mr. Shorb worked as a project engineer with Exxon and served as a lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Shorb serves on a number of civil and not-for-profit boards. |

| Albert M. Campbell IIIExecutive VP & CFOMr. Campbell, Executive Vice President and CFO for MAA, oversees the areas of accounting, treasury, financial planning, risk management, management information systems, and external reporting.
Mr. Campbell joined MAA in 1998 as Vice President of Financial Planning. He was promoted to Senior Vice President and Treasurer in 2003 where he managed the company’s funding requirements as well as financial analysis supporting corporate strategy, forecasting and budgeting. Mr. Campbell was promoted to Executive Vice President in 2008 and named CFO at the beginning of 2010.
Mr. Campbell began his career in public accounting with Arthur Andersen, serving as a Certified Public Accountant to numerous large public corporations. He also served in various finance and accounting roles with Thomas & Betts Corporation (a large public electrical supplies manufacturer) prior to joining MAA. Mr. Campbell graduated Magna Cum Laude from Mississippi State University with a Bachelors of Professional Accountancy and is a Certified Public Accountant.

| Thomas L. Grimes Jr.Executive VP & Chief Operating OfficerTom Grimes, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, oversees the company’s portfolio of approximately 50,000 units located in 13 states across the Sunbelt region of the United States. Mr. Grimes leads the company’s Property Management Division, Human Resources Division and Asset Management Division which includes pricing, landscape operations, maintenance, capital improvements, utility management, development and marketing.
Mr. Grimes joined MAA shortly after its initial public offering in 1994 and most recently served as Executive Vice President and Director of Property Operations Management for MAA. Mr. Grimes previously served MAA as Operations Director over the Central and North Regions and has served as Director of Business Development where he worked with the company’s joint venture partners, managed new development efforts and directed the company’s ancillary income business.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Emory University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Memphis. In 2006, Mr. Grimes was named one of the Top 40 under 40 National Industry Up and Comers by Multi-Family Executive Magazine.
Mr. Grimes is an active leader in the industry and community. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute (MultiFamily Gold Council) and a board member of the Leadership Academy of Memphis. He serves on the board of INNOVA, an early-stage venture capital firm focused on starting and funding high-growth companies in the Biosciences, Technology and AgBio fields across the state of Tennessee. He also serves as vice-chairman of the Board of the Shelby Farms Park Conservancy which is responsible for the design, development and management of one of the largest urban parks in the United States. |
| Leslie B.C. WolfgangSenior VP, Director of Investor Relations & Corporate SecretaryLeslie Wolfgang, Senior Vice President, Director of Investor Relations and Corporate Secretary directs the team responsible for investor and analyst relations and oversees all investor communications including press and earnings releases, investor presentations, Annual Reports and Proxy Statements. Leslie also oversees the team responsible for equity funding and transactions, and Board of Directors and corporate governance support.
Leslie joined MAA in 2000 and most recently served as Director of External Reporting which included responsibility for all SEC filings and external reporting, REIT compliance testing, MAA’s legal entity structure, and F&E and real estate taxes.
Leslie earned a B.S. in Business Administration, Cum Laude with a concentration in Finance from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and holds an M.B.A. from the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University with a concentration in Operations Management.
Leslie serves on the Financial Advisory Commission for Germantown, Tennessee. She also serves on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Open Arms Foundation, our corporate charity, and previously served as the charity’s Treasurer. |
| Tim ArgoSenior VP, Director of Financial PlanningTim Argo, Senior Vice President, Director of Financial Planning for MAA, is responsible for the company’s earnings forecast, risk management/insurance function, joint venture partner relationships, market research and strategic financial planning. He also oversees the company’s annual property budget process.
Mr. Argo joined MAA in June of 2002 as a financial analyst, primarily underwriting potential acquisition opportunities. Throughout his career, he has assisted MAA in the acquisition of over $800 million of multifamily real estate for its own account and an additional $200 million of real estate through joint venture arrangements.
Prior to joining MAA, Mr. Argo was a senior auditor with Arthur Andersen LLP, working on the engagements for a variety of public and private companies. Mr. Argo is a licensed CPA in the state of Tennessee. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Memphis in 1998 with a BBA in Accounting and earned an MBA with a concentration in Accounting in 1999, also from the University of Memphis. |
| Shelton BarronSenior VP, Director Management Information SystemsShelton Barron is the Senior Vice President, Management Information Systems. He joined MAA as Vice President, Management Information Systems in 1998. Mr. Barron oversees the team responsible for information technology functions and initiatives. With over 25 years of business experience, Mr. Barron plays a leading role in the integration design of MAA technology initiatives with our business partners including the company's pricing and revenue management system (LRO).
Prior to his employment with MAA, Mr. Barron served as Manager of Financial Systems for Thomas & Betts Corporation in Memphis Tennessee. During his 11 years tenure with Thomas & Betts, Mr. Barron was responsible for developing and maintaining the systems for the global consolidation and integrating it with the Oracle Financial system.
Mr. Barron earned, a BS in Business Studies from Richard Stockton (NJ), a CPA in 1983 (NJ-Inactive) and also holds a Master of Science from Widener University in PA. |
| Rick BartonSenior VP, Director of TaxRick Barton, Senior Vice President, Director of Tax, is responsible for MAA’s tax strategy and compliance and directs the team responsible for real estate and personal property tax, federal and state franchise and excise tax, REIT compliance and MAA’s legal entity structure.
Mr. Barton joined MAA in 1998 and served as MAA’s Controller with responsibility for all accounting records and financial statements, including maintaining systems of internal control and meeting external auditing requirements, from 2000 to 2012.
Mr. Barton has over 26 years of accounting and financial experience including six years of public accounting experience with PriceWaterhouseCoopers. Mr. Barton graduated cum laude from Memphis State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and is a Certified Public Accountant. |

Larry earned both a B.S.C. in Chemistry and a B.B.A. in Accounting from Memphis State University and is a Certified Public Accountant, inactive. Before joining MAA he was a Group Controller at Eastman Chemical Company.

| Micah HoltonSenior VP, ControllerMicah Holton, Senior Vice President, Controller, is responsible for MAA’s accounting records and financial statements. These responsibilities include maintaining systems of internal control, meeting external auditing requirements, SEC reporting requirements, compliance with U.S. GAAP and other regulations.
Mr. Holton joined MAA in June of 2006, serving in various accounting management and director roles, most recently as Senior Vice President, Director of External Reporting and Compliance.
Mr. Holton has over 10 years of experience in the accounting/finance industry. Prior to joining MAA, he held positions in the public company arena beginning with Ernst & Young LLP where he worked on a variety of public and private clients including real estate companies. He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the state of Tennessee and graduated Magna Cum Laude University of Memphis with a Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting. |
| James MaclinSenior VP, Director of Corporate SupportJames Maclin, Senior Vice President and Director of Corporate Support, has been with MAA since 1997. Mr. Maclin is responsible for new business development through ancillary income programs, collections, utility efficiency programs, redevelopment and MAA's limited retail business. MAA's redevelopment efforts include all interior renovations as well as community repositioning through a broader scope of redevelopment initiatives including upgrades to building exteriors, offices, clubhouses and other community amenities. Mr. Maclin began his tenure with MAA as the Director of Capital and Maintenance Operation and served as the Director of Asset Management prior to his current role.
Prior to joining MAA, Mr. Maclin worked in engineering design and project management. He served on teams that designed and constructed manufacturing facilities for Nabisco, Frito Lay, Hershey and DuPont, among other companies.
Mr. Maclin has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Memphis and an MBA with a concentration in Finance from Christian Brothers University. He has served on various civic boards including the Memphis Housing Authority, University of Memphis Alumni Association, Junior Achievements of America and Leadership Memphis. |
| Kevin P. PerkinsSenior VP, Director of Physical AssetsKevin P. Perkins, Senior Vice President and Director of Physical Assets, has more than 28 years of multifamily experience and has been with MAA since 1991.
Kevin is responsible for all operations associated with new development, construction, capital improvements, physical due diligence on acquisitions, and property maintenance activities.
Since 1991, Kevin has been directly involved in the development and construction of over 8,000 apartment units. Kevin is a licensed General Contractor.
Kevin holds designations as an Accredited Resident Manager by the Institute of Real Estate Management and Certified Apartment Manager by the National Apartment Association. |
| Andrew SchaefferSenior VP, TreasurerAndrew Schaeffer, Senior Vice President, Treasurer for MAA, is responsible for originating and negotiating all of MAA’s debt and derivative instruments to support corporate strategy. This includes managing a portfolio of over $1.7 billion in various debt instruments, combined with an $850 million portfolio of related hedging instruments.
Since joining MAA in 2009 Mr. Schaeffer has participated in $1.2 billion of unsecured, secured and credit facility financings. Mr. Schaeffer also spearheaded the Company’s efforts to transition to an unsecured debt platform with investment grade ratings from all three major rating agencies (Fitch Ratings, Moody’s Investors Service and Standard & Poor’s Ratings Service).
Prior to joining MAA, Mr. Schaeffer spent six years in private equity and investment banking, where he participated in numerous private and public company capital raising and advisory assignments. Mr. Schaeffer began his career in public accounting with Ernst & Young. Mr. Schaeffer graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Tennessee with a B.S. in Accounting. He holds a Masters of Accountancy from the University of Tennessee and is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive).
Mr. Schaeffer is also active in the community serving as Treasurer for the Governing Board of Veritas College Preparatory Charter School in South Memphis and as Treasurer for the Make-a-Wish Mid-South’s Associate Board. |
| Kim BanksSenior VP, North Region OperationsKim joined MAA in 1994 as a support manager in Lexington, Kentucky. Since then Kim’s role has continued to expand and she is now responsible for operations in our entire North Region which consists of our Jackson, Chattanooga and Nashville, Tennessee markets, as well as Birmingham and Huntsville, Alabama, and Kentucky and Ohio. Combined, these markets currently total over 6,100 apartment units.
Kim earned a B.S. in Business Administration, Cum Laude from Eastern Kentucky University and is currently a member of the Greater Nashville Apartment Association.
Kim also serves on the Board of Directors of the Open Arms Foundation, MAA’s own corporate charity.

| Beth BrockSenior VP, Central Region OperationsBeth joined MAA in December 2005 as an area leader over our Memphis, Tennessee and Little Rock, Arkansas submarkets. Since then, Beth’s role has continued to expand and she is now responsible for operations over our entire Central Region which consists of our Arkansas, Memphis, Tennessee, Missouri and Mississippi markets, which, combined, account for over 6,000 apartment units.
Beth is a 15+ year veteran of the real estate industry and is actively involved in industry groups including the Apartment Association of Greater Memphis Board and the Tennessee Apartment Association, for which Beth currently serves as the Vice President. Beth has previously served as President for both of these organizations and has received numerous industry awards including the Apartment Association of Greater Memphis’ Multi Site Professional of the Year.
Beth earned a B.A. in English from the University of Mississippi.
Beth also serves on the Board of Directors of the Open Arms Foundation, MAA’s own corporate charity and serves as Immediate Past President for the Memphis Farmer’s Market, which strives to improve public health nutrition options through local food choices while providing health education and furthering local economic development. |
| Diane ChastainSenior VP, South Regions OperationsDiane joined MAA in 1997 as a property leader in Atlanta, Georgia. Since then, Diane’s role has continued to expand and she is now responsible for operations over our entire South Region which consists of the majority of our Georgia markets, which, combined, account for over 7,500 apartment units.
Diane is a 20-year veteran of the real estate industry and is actively involved in the Atlanta Apartment Association and the Institute of Real Estate Management, Georgia Chapter.
Diane’s industry credentials include certifications as a Certified Property Manager (CPM), National Apartment Certified Property Supervisor (CAPS), Certified Apartment Manager (CAM) and an Associate Residential Manager (ARM). |
| Robert DonnellySenior VP, Coastal Region OperationsBob joined MAA in 1998 as a leasing consultant in Nashville, Tennessee. Since then Bob’s role has continued to expand and he is now responsible for operations in our entire Coastal Region which consists of our Florida markets and currently totals over 7,000 apartment units.
Bob earned a B.A. in Political Science from Davidson College and holds an MBA from Georgia State University.

| Cynthia Cloud McMillionSenior VP, West Regions Operations | Jackie MelnickSenior VP, East Region OperationsJackie joined MAA in July 1995 as a property manager. Since then, Jackie’s role has continued to expand and she is now responsible for operations over our entire East Region which consists of our North and South Carolina markets, Augusta, Georgia and Virginia which, combined, account for over 5,300 apartment units.
Jackie is a 20 year veteran of the real estate industry. She holds both Registered Apartment Manager and Certified Apartment Manager certifications from the National Association of Homebuilders and National Apartment Association, respectively. Jackie has received numerous industry awards including the National Association of Homebuilder’s Pillars of the Industry Regional Multi-Site Manager of the Year Award, the National Association of Homebuilder’s Peninsula Property Manager of the Year Award and the Peninsula Apartment Council Association President’s Gold Award.
Jackie has served as the President, Secretary and Membership Chairperson for the Peninsula Apartment Association and is a current member of the Central Virginia Apartment Association.
Jackie also serves on the Board of Directors of the Open Arms Foundation, MAA’s own corporate charity.

| Doug ClarkVice President, Director of Risk ManagementDoug joined MAA in 2002. Prior to joining MAA, Doug worked in Risk Management for The ServiceMaster Company. Doug earned a B.B.A. in Risk Management and Insurance from the University of Memphis and has over 16 years of diversified experience in risk management, claims, and employee safety. Doug has served as a guest lecturer at both The University of Memphis and The University of Mississippi.
Doug is a member of the Risk Insurance Management Society and served as President and Board Member of the Memphis Chapter in 2007 and 2008.

| Tilea Terry Vice President, Director of Marketing Tilea Terry is the Vice President, Director of Marketing. She joined MAA in
March 2013. Mrs. Terry is responsible for driving overall marketing strategy for the company with an
emphasis on developing a
stronger web based presence and focus on leasing effectiveness.
Prior to joining MAA, Mrs. Terry served as the Director of Interactive Marketing
at Hilton Worldwide.
During her 13 year tenure with Hilton, Mrs. Terry supported various brands
within the portfolio and
oversaw key company initiatives including new brand development and launch, 2008
Olympics program
integration, website development and an e-commerce support program beta and
roll-out.
Mrs. Terry earned, a BA in Journalism from The University of Memphis.
She is a past board member of The Memphis Oral School for the Deaf (2009-2012). |
