Eagle Bancorp, Inc. was incorporated under the general corporation laws of the State of Maryland on October 28, 1997, and is headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland. The company was formed as a bank holding company as defined by the Federal Reserve System. On June 9, 1998, Eagle Bancorp, Inc. closed its initial offering for shares of company stock with an over subscription amounting to $16.5 million.
On July 20, 1998, approvals were received from the State of Maryland and the Federal Reserve System, and acceptance for deposit insurance was received by the FDIC. EagleBank then opened its first office in Rockville, Maryland. On that same date, Eagle Bancorp, Inc. became a bank holding company by capitalizing EagleBank with $7.75 million. Two additional branch offices, Silver Spring and Bethesda, opened soon thereafter. The strong capitalization of the bank enabled it to open three offices before the end of its first year in business.
