The Savannah Bancorp, Inc. ("the Company") was incorporated as a Georgia business corporation on October 5, 1989, for the purpose of becoming a bank holding company by acquiring all of the common stock of The Savannah Bank, N.A. ("Savannah") on August 22, 1990. On December 15, 1998, the Company merged with Bryan BanCorp of Georgia, Inc. in Richmond Hill, GA. On March 1, 2006, Harbourside Community Bank ("Harbourside") opened for business on Hilton Head Island, SC. On August 31, 2007, the Company purchased Minis & Co., Inc., a registered investment advisor based in Savannah, GA. On September 30, 2009, Harbourside was merged into Savannah.
As of December 31, 2009, the Company had total assets of $1.051 billion, total loans of $884 million, total deposits of $885 million, total shareholders’ equity of $79 million and $929 thousand in 2009 net income.
