January 2013 The year 2012 proved to be quite lucrative at the box office with a number of both critical and financial hits. Total domestic gross reached an all-time high while admissions bounced back after a two-year slide. A record breaking $3.25 billion spring season got things rolling while the summer kicked off with "Marvel's The Avengers" eventually becoming the third highest grossing film of all time with $623.3 million.
January 2013 Multichannel operators have a love-hate relationship with the owners of cable networks, and much of the hate has recently been directed at two segments, sports networks and those channels with extremely low ratings which provide little value to subscribers. Operators have been providing more channels every year, which adds to the bill and it's already been rising due to the payment of retransmission fees to broadcasters. In addition, license fees have been escalating dramatically for national cable networks and regional sports networks. This has been exacerbated by new expensive channel launches like Time Warner Cable SportsNet, which outbid Fox Sports for the Lakers and Time Warner Cable also will be launching another channel featuring the Dodgers.
