The implementation of a cap on the commissions paid to junket operators in Macau has been delayed until Dec. 1, The Wall Street Journal reported Nov. 6, citing anonymous sources. The cap, which was agreed to by Macau's government and the six companies that operate casinos there, was supposed to go into effect Oct. 1 but has been delayed due to concerns raised by one of the operators, the newspaper said. The cap was to limit commissions casinos pay to junket operators, who bring in VIP players, to 1.25% of chips bought by players, the Journal reported. In the meantime, two operators, Las Vegas Sands Corp. and Melco Crown Entertainment Ltd., have bilaterally agreed to abide by the cap, according to the publication. The delay comes from uncertainty over how to assess the value of hotel rooms and other amenities, the Journal said. |
