Devon Energy Corp. drilled a successful well in the Haynesville Shale play in San Augustine County, Texas, the company said in a Nov. 2 news release. The company's Kardell Gas unit 1H achieved an average continuous 24-hour flow rate of about 30.7 MMcf/d, with flowing pressure of 6,824 pounds per square inch. The well was drilled to a depth of 18,350 feet, including a horizontal lateral section of about 4,500 feet, the company said. Devon operates the well with a 48% working interest. Crimson Exploration Inc. owns the remaining working interest. "With a flow rate of more than 30 million cubic feet per day, we believe the Kardell well is the highest rate well ever drilled in the Haynesville Shale. This is clearly a very positive development for the southern portion of the Haynesville Shale play," David Hager, Devon's executive vice president of exploration and production, said in the release. "We plan to go to a five-rig program in 2010 in this southern play area. Our longer-term objective is to continue to systematically evaluate and de-risk our entire Haynesville Shale position." The Oklahoma City-based company said the success of this first well in the county has encouraged it to accelerate drilling activity in the area. Devon has 47,000 net acres in the southern Haynesville Shale play, primarily in San Augustine and Sabine Counties, Texas, and Sabine Parish, La. Devon has about 570,000 net acres in the greater Haynesville Shale trend in east Texas and north Louisiana. |
