While Verizon Wireless might have thought its "There's a Map for That" campaign was a clever play on AT&T Inc. and Apple Inc.'s "There's an App for That" slogan, AT&T apparently fails to see the humor. The Wall Street Journal reported Nov. 3 that AT&T filed suit against Verizon Wireless, claiming that the company's "There's a Map for That" ads mislead consumers about the breadth of AT&T's wireless coverage. Specifically, AT&T argues that the maps in the commercials illustrate the regions where the telco does not provide 3G service with blank spaces, making it look as though the company does not provide service in those areas at all. AT&T is reportedly seeking a restraining order. Verizon Wireless spokesman Jim Gerace, meanwhile, said in the report that the ads "clearly explain that non-3G coverage is available elsewhere." Verizon Wireless is jointly owned by Verizon Communications Inc. and Vodafone Group plc. |
