Though EPIX did not have its official launch until the end of October, the new premium cable network's performance already impacted Viacom Inc.'s results through the first three quarters of the year. According to a Form 10-Q filed Nov. 3, Viacom's Paramount studio recognized $61 million of revenue and $23 million of operating income from EPIX during the first nine months ended Sept. 30. The revenue and income stemmed from certain of Paramount's 2008 film releases being made available to EPIX for exhibition in the domestic pay-television window. In addition, Viacom noted that its share of losses from EPIX were $2 million and $6 million for the third quarter and the nine months ended Sept. 30, respectively. EPIX is jointly owned by Paramount, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. and Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. |
