Best Buy, Sonic Solutions join forces for on-demand movies

Best Buy Co. Inc. partnered with Sonic Solutions on a new on-demand movie and entertainment service that will allow consumers to buy or rent movies and TV shows.

Best Buy said Nov. 3 that it cut a multiyear deal to license and deploy Sonic's Roxio CinemaNow technology and services platform to make on-demand digital content delivery a standard feature on connected consumer electronics devices sold throughout U.S. Best Buy retail stores and BestBuy.com.

As part of the agreement, Best Buy also acquired warrants that will allow it to buy Sonic Solutions' common shares.
