Working Together for a Sustainable Future

At Hawaiian Electric Industries sustainability is central to our strategy. As a company with all of our operations in Hawaii, our ability to deliver long-term value for our stakeholders is inextricably linked to the sustainability of our environment, communities and economy.

We’re committed to achieving 100% renewable energy by 2045 and helping our state make its economy carbon neutral by that same year. We’re well on our way. In 2018, 27% of energy sales across our five-island electric utility system were from renewable sources. Our utilities have contracted for solar plus storage projects that are expected to help us reach 50% renewable energy across our system by 2022 and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50% compared to 2010. We’re focused on collaborating with our stakeholders to achieve a sustainable, 100% renewable energy future for our state.

Hawaiian Electric Sustainability Report and EEI ESG Template

Read more about our utility’s sustainability efforts in Hawaiian Electric’s annual Sustainability Report. This year’s report reflects Hawaiian Electric’s participation in a voluntary initiative coordinated by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) to provide investors and stakeholders with more uniform and consistent environmental, social, governance and sustainability-related (ESG/sustainability) metrics. This voluntary reporting template includes quantitative information on key ESG/sustainability topics, including our generation portfolio, capital investments, emissions, human resources and natural resources.
